How it works

1

Get a Raspberry Pi

Grab a Raspberry Pi 5 with 8 GB RAM and a microSD card. That's all the hardware you need.

2

Flash the SD card

Download the ClawRig image and flash it onto your SD card. Pop it into the Pi and power on.

3

Connect to Wi-Fi, sign in with OpenAI, and link Telegram. The wizard walks you through each step.

4

Start using OpenClaw

That's it. Your device is ready to go. Manage everything from a simple dashboard.

Guided Setup

No command line, no config files. A step-by-step wizard walks you through everything from Wi-Fi to sign-in.

How ClawRig started

I wanted to share OpenClaw with my friends, but setting it up right now isn't straightforward. I wanted to make it as easy as possible for them — without making them create new accounts or sign up for another subscription they don't need.

Most people are already familiar with ChatGPT, so asking them to pay $20/month to try their own AI agent isn't a big leap. That's what really lowers the barrier.

For about $200 — a Raspberry Pi 5 with 8 GB RAM, a nice case, and everything you need — plus a $20/month ChatGPT subscription, you get to try your own AI agent. Your memory, your data, yours to keep.

If you outgrow it, move your agent to something bigger. If you're done, sell the Pi. No lock-in, no waste.

Frequently asked questions

What is OpenClaw?

OpenClaw is an open-source AI agent that can help you with everyday tasks — answering questions, managing schedules, sending messages, and more. You interact with it through Telegram, and it remembers your conversations and preferences over time.

ClawRig is the easiest way to run OpenClaw. It handles all the setup so you can start using your agent without dealing with servers, code, or configuration.

Why ClawRig?

OpenClaw can run on lots of different hardware, but getting it set up usually means working with the command line, editing config files, and troubleshooting on your own. ClawRig takes care of all that. It gives you a guided wizard, a dashboard to manage everything, and automatic updates — so you can focus on using your agent, not maintaining it.

Right now ClawRig runs on Raspberry Pi, with support for other devices maybe coming later.

Why a Raspberry Pi?

A Raspberry Pi is affordable hardware you buy once. There are no monthly server bills, no cloud instances to manage — just a small device that sits in your home and runs quietly. Your data, your agent's memory, and all of its state live on your Pi, not on someone else's server.

And it's not a dead end. When you're ready, you can move your agent to a Mac mini, a Mac Studio, a cloud provider, or any other device. The Pi is just the easiest way to start without thinking about ongoing costs beyond your OpenAI subscription.

What do I need to get started?

You'll need a Raspberry Pi 5 with at least 8 GB RAM, a microSD card (32 GB minimum, 64–128 GB recommended), a USB-C power supply, and an Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi connection.

During setup, you'll need both a computer (to flash the SD card) and a phone (to connect to the wizard and link Telegram). After that, you can manage everything from your phone — you'll only need your computer occasionally.

Do I need technical experience?

No. ClawRig is designed specifically for non-technical people. The setup wizard handles Wi-Fi configuration, OpenAI sign-in, and Telegram linking step by step. If you can plug in a device and follow on-screen instructions, you can use ClawRig.

How long does setup take?

About 15–30 minutes depending on how familiar you are with the tools. If you already have Telegram set up, you'll be on the faster end. If you need to download Telegram and create a bot for the first time, it may take a bit longer. Flashing the SD card takes a few extra minutes before that.

What does ClawRig cost?

ClawRig is free. You just need your own Raspberry Pi and an OpenAI subscription for the AI costs. In the future we may offer optional paid conveniences, but there will always be a free option.

Can I move my agent to another device later?

Yes. Your agent's data and memory live on the microSD card. You can migrate to a more powerful Raspberry Pi, a Mac mini, a cloud server, or any other device that runs OpenClaw. The Pi is a great starting point, not a locked-in choice.

What happens if my Pi loses power or internet?

Your agent goes offline until the connection is restored. If the Pi loses power and you turn it back on, ClawRig starts up automatically — no manual intervention needed. Your data and conversation history are preserved on the SD card.

When is ClawRig not the right fit?

ClawRig is great for getting started, but it's not for everyone.

You're comfortable setting things up yourself. If you already know your way around servers and command lines, you might prefer installing OpenClaw directly on whatever hardware or cloud provider you already use. ClawRig's value is in removing that complexity — if you don't mind it, you don't need ClawRig.

You need it to be always on. ClawRig runs on a Raspberry Pi in your home. If your internet goes out or the Pi loses power, your agent goes offline until things come back. It's reliable for everyday use, but it's not built for situations where downtime isn't an option.

You need multiple people using the same agent. Right now ClawRig is designed for one person, one agent, one device. If you need shared access or team features, it's not there yet.

What should I avoid sharing with my agent?

Never share passwords, secret keys, or sensitive credentials with your AI agent. While your data stays on your device, the agent sends messages to your LLM provider (OpenAI) for processing. Treat your agent like a helpful assistant — share what you'd share with a trusted coworker, but keep secrets to yourself.
